About Romey
Naturalist. Wildlife biologist. Conservationist. Storyteller.
Romey Swanson is a Texas naturalist, wildlife biologist, conservationist, writer, and host of Modern Texas Naturalist. His work spans wildlife research, private lands conservation, rivers and water, and the people and communities shaping conservation across Texas.
A Life in the Field
From reptiles and amphibians to high-elevation owls, rivers, ranches, and conservation partnerships, Romey’s work is rooted in field experience and a curiosity about how wildlife, landscapes, and people fit together. Modern Texas Naturalist brings those experiences into stories, conversations, writing, and public programs.
That work has ranged from private-land conservation and water policy to wildlife research, field surveys, public speaking, and writing. Along the way, the common thread has been a fascination with the relationships between species, landscapes, and the people who live and work among them.
